My yoga journey began in high school, comically enough, with a Denise Austin video tape of my mother's. I immediately fell in love with the poses' effects on my body and with learning how to manipulate myself to get deep stretches in muscles that I previously wasn't aware needed deep stretching. As a little kid who did dance and gymnastics, yoga came quite naturally to me, and I enjoyed it, so I kept it up. When I went to college, I bought a yoga DVD and mat and occasionally went to group classes on campus at Mississippi State. It wasn't until I moved to Hattiesburg, though, in 2011 to began graduate school at USM that I made yoga classes at the Payne Center part of a consistent, weekly routine. That eventually led to an opportunity to be an instructor, and I quickly became passionate about making yoga's benefits accessible to people who might have initially been turned off by the idea.
Brittany began her 200-hr RYT certification process with YogaFit in 2014 and began teaching yoga classes at the Payne Center. She currently holds Levels 1, 2, & 3, YogaFit for Warriors (yoga for PTSD and trauma), and YogaLean (yoga for weight loss) certifications. She has been teaching group exercise-style yoga for three years and is CPR and First Aid certified.
